With the great alpaca pick-up adventure over, it was time to pick up with life on the suburban homestead again. Ken
had graciously taken care of the rabbits while I was gone, plus re-staked the tomatoes to repair the storm damage. He had also caught a summer cold, so I am doubly grateful that he did the chores anyway.
With everything in such nice shape, I had a moment to stop and look at the flowers. We have about 1/5th of the yard planted in native Texas grasses and wildflowers, and they are doing great. The flowers are blooming and that section of the yard gets prettier every day. It’s wonderful to sit on the patio and look out there in the morning with a cup of hot coffee, and it’s a great place for the rabbits to play!
A surprise flower has also grown up in one of the potato patches! I’m guessing that the seed traveled from the bunny cages to the compost and then on over to the potatoes when we planted them. We left it alone just to see what it was, and it has rewarded us with a beautiful bloom!
I must say, I’ve never cared for flower beds. They seemed too much like work to me! But looking out over the carefree native flowers growing amongst the other plants, that’s just plain beautiful!
Maybe just one more cup of coffee……
